This month, we’re going to focus your attention on a vital part of your home – the water heater. Like many important elements in a home, your water heater is easy to forget about until it stops working properly. It’s important to have your water heater fully flushed by a professional every year or two, but did you know that you can also do some basic maintenance and inspection for yourself?
One thing that most homeowners can do for themselves is to make sure the temperature and pressure relief valve is working properly. All it takes is to lift the valve partway and then let it snap back into place. As long as you hear the sound of gurgling water, and the valve has no issues snapping back into place, you’re in good shape. If not, you may need to replace it. Additionally, you could do a minor flush of the tank by draining a couple of gallons of water. This can help remove sediment from the bottom of the tank.
