Imagine that you filled up a bucket of water and poured it out inside of your home. How bad do you think it would be? Your average bucket holds about five gallons, so now imagine that you dumped 3 buckets of water inside of your home every minute. Does that thought make you break out in a sweat? While it’s not very likely that you would do something like that, a busted pipe could have the same effect. In most homes, the water through your pipes flows at a rate of 14 gallons per minute. Just imagine the devastation if you were to accidentally cut through a pipe while doing some home improvement.

This really shows why you should be careful whenever you are cutting into walls. If something that catastrophic were to happen to you, it is very important that you get your priorities straight. While your first instinct might be to stop the water at the leak, but that is going to prove futile. Instead, you want to find the nearest shut-off valve to stop up the water completely.
