If at all possible, when cleaning your home, try to use nontoxic products. There are many options nowadays and can be as effective as chemical cleaners. If you need to use chemicals in the home however, try and use a non aerosol. Its also important to carefully read labels on the bottles so that you are not misusing them.
Make sure rooms have a good air flow when using kerosene or gas heaters even when using stoves etc A well ventilated room can allow fresh air to flow and minimize the amount of carbon monoxide released by these appliances
Try to clean up pet hair and dander regularly by vacuuming the areas where your pets spend the most time, such as where they sleep. Keep your pets well groomed and bathed regularly.
Many types of newer furniture and soft furnishings contain the chemical formaldehyde which releases formaldehyde gas, again try to have good air flow in these areas. Curtains and soft furnishings benefit from being placed in a airy environment first in order to air them out.
If you smoke, its best to smoke outside. Tobacco smoke has toxic chemicals that can pollute your homes air.
Damp places and areas vulnerable to mold (like basements) benefit from regular inspection. A certified home inspector can assist you with this.
